  • Write articles for publication on legal information website, www.LawServer.com, addressing the latest changes and issues regarding state laws.
  • Research and compile statutes and case law for all fifty states on wide variety of issues including non-economic and punitive damage caps, driving while intoxicated penalties, mandatory school attendance, simplified probate proceedings and marital property rights.


Kansas Legislature, Revisor of Statutes Office, Assistant Revisor (March 2007 - May 2008) Topeka, Kansas
  • Collaborated with House Committee on Health and Human Services leadership in drafting statutory language on various health related subjects including health care and health insurance reform, authorization of persons who make adoption home assessments and emergency medical services attendants' training requirements.
  • Consulted with staff members of certain state agencies regarding desired statutory amendments.
  • Assisted lead revisor with legislative drafting services for the House committees on Education and Elections and Governmental Organization.
  • Drafted House and Senate resolutions.


State of Kansas Revisor of Statutes Office, Graduate Fellow (May - December 2006) Topeka, Kansas
  • Researched the speech or debate clauses of all 50 states, and cases interpreting them for the House Investigative Committee; requested and compiled information from NCSL regarding other states' rules regarding communication between branches of government.
  • Researched others states' definitions of "driving under the influence" for the Special Committee on Judiciary; drafted bill regarding increased penalties for drunk driving that was presented to the Joint Committee on the Judiciary and was passed in substantially the same form by the Kansas Legislature during the 2007 session.

  • Held Kansas property and casualty insurance license.
  • One of a team of eleven agents who handled renewal and service for more than 16,000 pleasure and business aircraft insurance policies.

Intern, Kansas State Senator Chris Steineger, (January - May 2006) Topeka, Kansas
  • Researched the Canadian health care system; wrote summaries comparing the U.S. system in several areas including government and private spending, health indicators, human, equipment and facility resources, and medical malpractice insurance.
  • Researched and wrote a letter for Sen. Steineger to send to the Department of Motor Vehicles explaining the law regarding modification of antique motorcycles for a constituent. The constituent was successful in obtaining a title for his motorcycle.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT 

Volunteer Guardian, Kansas Guardianship Program, (March 2007 - present)
  • Legal guardian for two residents of the Kansas Neurological Institute.
  • Visit wards at least twice a month.
  • Attend annual life planning sessions.


Volunteer, Kansas Legal Services, (October 2005 - April 2006) Topeka, Kansas
  • Organized and followed up on medical bills from about ten providers for an elderly client to determine if there were any legal issues that KLS could assist with.
  • Co-presented a PEANE (Prevention of Exploitation, Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly) workshop with Tom Stratton, Managing Director; updated the Kansas statutes portion of the slide presentation; researched statistics and presented the financial abuse portion of the workshop.
